A Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris) is giving the smaller Redwing (Turdus iliacus) a thorough beating in a fight for a piece of apple. After some nice and warm days with spring flowers and newly arrived migrants the 23rd of April changed the game completely, as everything was covered in 10 inches of snow in just 10 hours. Luckily it lasted for only two days, but lots of small songbirds died and many nestings were destroyed. To some extent this happens every spring, but this time was serious, because it occured so late in the season.
